Armchair Oscar - Year 1935
The Oscar armchair from 1935 belongs to Carl Malmsten's earlier works and is different, therefore, from what we think of today as typically Malmstenesque. Very little is documented about this armchair and its origin. But the design is reminiscent of the furnishings of the sitting room of Ulriksdal Palace, which was given to the crown prince and princess, Gustav and Louise, by the Swedish people in 1923.
Carl Malmsten was given the honourable task of making the furnishings for this. The Oscar armchair may have been a template for this period and perhaps that is why Carl Malmsten gave the chair a royal-sounding name.
